The Holy Virgin Mary is honoured in the parish church under the title Our Lady Queen of Peace
A very old statue depicts the Holy Virgin in a restful pose. Tradition has it that this statue was washed up in the village of Elen after the Maas flooded.
The church is open to the general public during te day.
’t Winkelke in Heppeneert: Everyone’s Welcome to Our Open House!
On Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, the volunteers at ’t Winkelke will kick off the month of May with a fun open house. And it will undoubtedly be worth your while, as the volunteers are ready to explain what’s on offer—and that’s more than just devotional candles. After all, there are also little gems, statues of saints, little angels, greeting cards, keychains, rosaries… Everyone is sure to find something they like. New this year is the statue of Our Lady of Peace, a creation by porcelain artist Piet Stockmans. Bargains are available outside, and free coffee is offered to every visitor. Delicious freshly baked waffles will be sold. And anyone who feels like it can try out the heated bench!
